Where to Attend
Atlantic building - ATL 3100A (UMD)
The time mentioned above is in Eastern Standard Time (EST).
Dr. Jacob Lin and Dr. Alexander Schuckert will join us to discuss their career paths that span both academic and industry sectors. Each will give a short presentation about their career journey, followed by a Q&A session for in-person and zoom participants.
Jacob Lin ((BlueQubit -> University of Miami))
Jacob was a postdoctoral researcher at RQS from 2022 to 2025. His research interest is in the intersection of quantum information and many-body physics. He is interested in the topics including quantum many-body chaos, many-body localization, quantum many-body scars and entanglement renormalization. He obtained his PhD from Caltech in 2019 and was a postdoctoral researcher at Perimeter Institute before joining RQS. Jacob now works as a Quantum Research Scientist at BlueQubit until August 2026. He will begin his appointment as an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami after August 2026.
Alexander Schuckert (QuEra -> Ecole Normale Superieure Paris)
Alex was a Theoretical Quantum Optics Postdoctoral Fellow working closely with Zohreh Davoudi, Mohammad Hafezi, Alexey Gorshkov and Michael Gullans at UMD. He was a RQS Postdoctoral Scholar from 2022 to 2025. He is interested in finding algorithms and protocols for current analogue and digital quantum simulators, in particular those probing questions around quantum many-body physics and non-equilibrium dynamics. He has experience working with silicon donor, ion trap and cold atom platforms, however he maintains a deep experimental curiosity about all platforms. He considers the possibility of implementing his proposals in current devices a priority, which he pushes in particular in his part-time employment at Quantinuum. Alex obtained his PhD from the Technical University of Munich under the supervision of Michael Knap with a fellowship from the Max Planck Institute for quantum optics. Alex now works at QuEra as a Senior Quantum Scientist. He will start a faculty position at the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris in September 2026.
Food will be provided at UMD.
