MA1: Interacting Fermion Simulation
Image
Many central problems in fields ranging from materials science and chemistry to nuclear physics rely on modeling systems of strongly interacting fermions. Because of their classical intractability and wide relevance, these problems are an attractive target for near-term quantum-simulation methods. We will approach the challenge of simulating interacting fermions from three complementary perspectives:
- Focus area 1.1: Hybrid digital-analog simulation
- Focus area 1.2: Fermionic quantum computing and simulation
- Focus area 1.3: New regimes of the interacting-fermion problem
We will pursue novel hardware solutions that utilize native fermionic systems, as well as optimize qubit-based systems through co-design.
