Quantum-simulation Engineering

A major goal of the RQS Institute in Phase II is to advance quantum-simulation technology, ranging from hardware-architecture design and deployment to algorithmic and software-stack development. These efforts not only enable our quantum-simulation goals, but also benefit R&D efforts in quantum computing and quantum technologies broadly. Addressing this challenge requires focused engineering efforts that cut across the major research activities. We will approach quantum-simulation engineering through three focus areas.

  • Focus area 4.1: Quantum-simulator development.
  • Focus area 4.2: Fault-tolerant Quantum Simulation.
  • Focus area 4.3: Compilers for quantum simulation.

These activities cut across, and crucially enable, the three major research activities, while also supporting foundational research that broadly benefits quantum science. A part of the Institute's efforts will be devoted to these activities, with the bulk of the Institute's research focused on the major activities.
